    Watering Eyes Treatment in Kerala

Tears are necessary for the nourishment and lubrication of the human eye. Thus it will  keep our eyes healthy, protect it from irritants and give us good vision. Every time when we blink, our eyes get washed with tears produced by the lacrimal glands. Due to inflammation or irritation, these glands will produce more tears which leads to  watering eyes.

Watering Eyes is a condition where tears overflow onto the face, without any specific reason. Watering eye or epiphora can be developed at any age. It is common among babies under 12 months and older people who are in their late 60's.

    Causes

Blocked tear ducts or excessive production of tears are the main cause of watery eyes.

Blocked tear ducts: When the tear ducts gets narrowed or blocked, the tears get build up in the tear sac without being able to drain away. Swelling or inflammation can narrow the duct.

Over-production of tears: The effect of following irritants will lead to the over-production of tears. Allergic conjunctivitis, injury to the eye, effect of chemicals or fumes, inward growing of eyelashes etc.

    Treatment for Watery Eyes

Depending on the severity of the condition, the treatment procedures varies from person to person. If you blink your eyes more often, most of the dry eye syndrome can be avoided. Lubricating eye drops can be used to ease the discomfort of dry eye.

    Medications:

Antibiotic eye drops are used to control watering eyes which is caused due conjunctivitis. Watering of eyes due to bacterial or viral infections can be diminished by the use of medications. Inflammation on eyes can be mitigated by using antihistamine medications.

    Minor procedure

In order to alleviate the irritations caused by the inward-growth of eyelashes or by a foreign object, a minor operation is carried out under local anaesthesia.

    Surgery for blocked tear ducts

The tear duct gets blocked due to infection, it should be treated with antibiotics before undergoing surgery. Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is the common surgical procedure used to treat blocked tear ducts. Here a new  channel is created to bypass the blocked part of the duct. With surgery the blocked ducts can be cleared. If left untreated, the infection will spread to eye socket.

Dr.Tony's Superspeciality Eye Hospital and Lasik Centre provides the best treatment for watering eyes in Kerala. It is one of thebest eye hospital in Kerala, offering the services of experienced ophthalmologist.
